October 11, 2024
The fall foliage is in full swing. The colors of the trees on my way in each day
are simply gorgeous. I hope everyone has the opportunity this weekend to get
outside and enjoy the colors, especially on this long weekend when everyone is
ready for a short break.
I want to thank the Holden Fire Department for stopping by on Wednesday
this week to talk to the students about fire safety. The students were respectful
and excellent representatives of the Holden School. At the end of the
presentation, the students received a water bottle.
On October 26, the PTG will host its annual Trunk-a-Treat at the Eddington
School. It will last from 4:30 to 6:30 in the back of the school.
We have Red Ribbon Week starting in the next couple of weeks. Mrs. Smith,
our School Counselor, will discuss alcohol and drug awareness and how students
can protect themselves from exposure. If you have concerns or questions, please
get in touch with the school.
On October 31, the students will be allowed to wear Halloween costumes.
We will also have a Halloween parade, weather permitting, where students will
walk over to the public safety building and Trick or Treat at the Fire Station, Town
Office, and Police Station. There will be a flyer and rules regarding what is
accepted for costumes. Costumes cannot hinder body movement, and students
should be able to sit comfortably in their chairs. No mask and No face paint that
covers the entire face, but a small amount of face paint would be accepted. No
inflatable costumes. Parents will be able to be present to take pictures of their
children. The parade will start at 2:00, and parents may gather at the public safety
building or along the walkway between the school and the public safety building.
Your continued involvement in your child's education is paramount. By
making it a habit to read to your child each night and practice math facts, you
reinforce what they learn at school and significantly contribute to their academic
success.
Mr. Baker
Hello RSU 63 Families,
During Panther Time this week, we continued to work on our Gratitude Journals. In 2nd grade, we learned the difference between tattling and reporting. Tattling is when you tell a teacher about a small problem that you can fix yourself. Tattling is when you want to get someone in trouble. Reporting tells a teacher a big problem like when someone is hurt, in danger, or unsafe. Reporting keeps others safe and protected. Then we played “hot potato”, and the children were given different scenarios and asked to determine if it was tattling or reporting. They love this game!
In 3rd & 4th grade, we read the book Tough, by Erin Frankel which takes the perspective of the bully. This book helps the children develop empathy for others. I am so impressed with their thoughtful and sincere responses to this book. After I read this book, we worked on ways to prevent bullying. I hope you are seeing some of these papers at home.
At the end of our time together, we continued deep breathing and yoga exercises that helped the children calm their bodies.
Next week we will continue lessons centered around bullying. The kids have been wonderful listeners and active participators. They fill my bucket every day!
Sincerely,
Ms. Dodie LMSW/CC
BE ALERT!!!
As the school year begins, we are asking parents to please be aware that when a bus has their flashing lights on you must stop and DO NOT PASS.
There is very large fine for anyone who passes a school
bus with their lights flashing.
Thank you for keeping our children safe.

Free Covid tests are available again
There are still many questions about our covid policy. There is no covid policy.
The CDC recommends that covid be treated just like any other illness. Send your
child to school when:
• Your child has been fever-free for 24 hours (without medicine)
• He/she is eating and drinking normally
• Cough/runny nose is mild and will not interfere with the day
• Feels well enough to complete a day of school
• There is no waiting period.
• There is no masking requirement
